Appointment as Shadow Minister for Choice in Childcare and Early Learning

I am privileged to be appointed Shadow Minister for Choice in Childcare and Early Learning and Shadow Minister for Child Protection and Prevention of Family Violence in Angus Taylor’s Coalition Shadow Ministry.

Labor’s childcare system is locked into a rigid, one-size-fits-all model forcing children into centre-based care with little regard for what genuinely suits their families. This simply does not reflect the reality or needs of Australian households.

Our agenda is clear: parental choice must drive childcare policy. Families deserve the power to pick solutions tailored to their unique situations, not have their options restricted by government mandates.

We need true flexibility, so every family can select the care that fits them best. The government shouldn’t dictate what children need; parents should be the ones deciding what is right for their kids.

In my first speech to Parliament in 2019, I stressed the vital need to invest in early childhood learning, preparing them for an unpredictable future. International research shows time and again that smart, targeted investment in early childhood delivers lifelong benefits.

I am also pleased to take on the role as Shadow Minster for Child Protection and Prevention of Family Violence. These are areas that require careful, considered leadership and a focus on prevention, early intervention and child safety. There is significant work ahead and I will approach this role with the responsibility and determination it deserves.

I look forward to working under the leadership of Angus Taylor and alongside my colleagues Melissa McIntosh and Julian Leeser, advocating for policies that empower families, because strong families are the foundation of a strong Australia.
